HBB SOUNDTRACK Dear Sir, We loved Godfather II and especially enjoyed that spooky Stranger in the House, although I had never even heard of it. Let’s have more of these thrillers in the future! Sincerely, Tom Genar Dear HBO: I’m beginning to wonder about some of your movie choices. I just saw Stranger in the House—and I was really surprised that you’d show this kind of film. Why can’t all of your programs be more like that beautiful animal movie? Thank you, A concerned viewer hese are typical examples of letters we receive—two different reactions to the JL exact same program. Our research and your letters indicate that HBO viewers really enjoy most of the movies we show. The important word is “most,” since not even HBO can please all of the viewers all of the time. Obviously you don’t go to see every new movie that comes to town, because they don’t all appeal to you. In the same way, not every movie shown on HBO will appeal to you either. However, by bringing you nearly all of the major Hollywood releases, Home Box Office offers you a great variety from which to choose. Some people like mysteries, some people like comedies, some want adventure and some people will see anything as long as Robert Redford is in it. That’s what makes movies— and HBO—so interesting. Another important point brought out in the two letters above is that one movie, although relatively unknown, was extremely well liked. By now you’ve probably discovered what our research also confirms—that many of the movies you’ve liked best weren’t always the “box office hits.” So don’t overlook those titles that are new to you. In fact, that’s one of the reasons we’ve added more pictures of movies to our Highlights page. Due to delayed mail deliveries during the Labor Day weekend, your September guide may arrive a little late. Therefore, we’ve listed the schedule for the first five days on page 23 of this guide. Speaking of September, we have a great fall season coining up! Big movies like All the President’s Men, Lipstick, Ode to Billy Joe—and lots of new special programs are in the works. Also there’s a brand new football show starting in September which we’ll tell you more about next month. September, October, November—all season long—you’ll enjoy HBO, The Great Entertainment Alternative. 22 COMING IN SEPTEMBER On June 3, 1953 Billy Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge.
